Healthy Turkey Burgers

Turkey Burgers

Turkey Burgers

I hate to admit it but I make this recipe at least once a week, and you will know why once you make these for yourself! These burgers are perfect for any time of the year because they’re made right in your kitchen, not on the grill.

I came up with this recipe because I don’t eat red meat and was tired of going to countless restaurants and getting dried out Turkey Burgers. I have found the trick, steaming them . . once they are crisp on the outsides of course!

This dish took me less than 30 min. to prep, create and eat (yes, I’m a fast eater – ask anyone who knows me)

I hope you enjoy and of course let me know if you have any questions! All ingredients from Trader Joe’s, click on the links for images of the items I bought!

Ingredients:

  • 1 pack of lean turkey meat
  • 6 cloves of fresh garlic
  • 1 large sweet onion
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh ground garlic
  • Non-stick cooking spray
  • Salt
  • 1 tablespoon of Italian seasoning
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon of light soy sauce
  • ¼ cup of Glutino gluten free bread crumbs
  • Balsamic glaze
  • 1 tablespoon of garlic powder

Directions:

  1. First, make sure that your meat is thawed out. If you need to thaw it out a bit, just place in the microwave for 5 minutes (on the thaw feature)
  2. Heat a large pan to med-high, mostly on the high side though and then spray with a heavy dose of non-stick cooking spray (I like the olive oil from Trader Joe’s)
  3. Place in the *Hot pan: 8 cloves of fresh garlic and a whole sweet onion (thinly sliced)
  4. Cover for about 10 minutes or so until the veggies are starting to brown on both sides
  5. While those are cooking, lets prepare the meat: mix together in a large bowl: turkey meat, 1 tablespoon of fresh ground garlic, 1 whole egg, ½ cup of gluten free break crumbs (I love Glutino’s), Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, soy sauce
  6. Mold them into 4 patties and place in the hot pan, but be sure to apply for non-stick cooking spray first. Just push the onions and garlic over to side, then place the burger patties in the pan
  7. Flip after 3 minutes, and make sure each side is golden and crisp
  8. Then you will want to lower the heat and cover so they can steam. You will want to leave them on about med heat for 15 to 20 minutes, while flipping every 4 or so
  9. Add a touch of garlic salt to the tops and the veggies and burgers
  10. Make sure they are fully cooked and topped with a bit of balsamic glaze

Voila, you’re done! How easy is that? The trick is flash frying them so they get really crisp. Then steaming them, which keeps them nice and juicy! 🙂
