Bakes Apples with Sugared Almonds

This recipe was actually made last fall but it was something I wanted to share because it’s one of my absolute favorite healthy {gluten free} desserts!

Since apples are year-around here in California, you can start making this now if you’re here. If not, hold this off until fall when the apples are perfectly crisp and oh so sweet!

This recipe takes about an hour to prepare and make; serves up to 5 people at less than $12

Ingredients:

  • 5 large red apples, or whichever type of apple you’d like to use
  • 1/2 cup of raw almonds (Trader Joe’s)
  • 1/4 cup of powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup of stevia (Trader Joe’s)
  • 1/4 cup of light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup of pure maple syrup
  • Pinch of himalayan salt
  • Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg

Directions:

  1. First, you’ll want to cut the apples in to 1in slices and line the bottom of a glass baking pan (or any other pie baking pan) and sprinkle with enough cinnamon and nutmeg to cover all the apples
  2. Next, put the almonds in a separate bowl. Spray them with a bit of cooking spray, which will keep the powered sugar attached.
  3. Once you’ve sprayed the almonds, pour in the powdered sugar to coat the almonds
  4. Now, pour the almonds on top of the apples
  5. Next, pour in the stevia and light brown sugar on top of everything
  6. Lastly, sprinkle with himalayan salt
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour at 375 degrees
  8. When ready to serve, pour the pure maple syrup on top and a dash more of cinnamon

It’s the perfect sweet treat for when you’re craving something of comfort! I love sweets more than anything and I have to say, this is one of my favorite things to make in the fall!
