White Men Begging!

In a state so concerned with their homeland and available jobs secure from illegal immigrants, I find it interesting that there are so many white men begging. White men are arguably the most privileged in our society, but at the 75th Ave. exit off the WB I10 in Phoenix, AZ there is a community of white men begging in shifts.  Some have signs, while others don’t, but it is clear that they are all working together.  They are typically at all four corners of the intersection from dawn until dusk, and if you frequent the area you begin to recognize them.  This is growing to epidemic proportions as their efforts have already grown to the 83Ave exit.  What’s even more disturbing is that I checked the area and several employers are hiring including CarMax and the PetSmart warehouse.

While Arizona is trying to kick immigrants who want to work out of the state, these young, able, white men who are unwilling to work, beg for you to hand them your hard earned money out the window.  Does this bother anyone else?

I have seen these guys and it is absolutely ridiculous. I hope your signs will help to stop this kind of behavior in our neighborhood.

  • G8RGURLNPHX Says:

They are not trying to kick LEGAL immigrants, that are not in the act of committing a crime, out of our country. They are trying to find ILLEGAL ALIENS in the act of committing a crime and then deal with them. Being a Mexican American myself, I see nothing wrong with this. The key word is ILLEGAL! I am so tired of people misrepresenting this law.

  • UsrNme1 Says:

Fair enough “G8RGURLNPHX”, the focus is on ILLEGAL immigrants and it’s important to make the clarification. But shouldn’t some respect be paid to those that want to work, compared to those who simply want money handed to them??

These men have recruited a few more to beg at the 67th Ave exit. How is this better than the Mexican men who get harassed looking for day labor in the Home Depot parking lots?

  • G8RGURLNPHX Says:

I am not condoning anyone to beg instead of getting a job. But if they are in front of Home Depot and they shouldn’t even be in America because it’s ILLEGAL…then they could find a job, not stand in front of Home Depot. I don’t think anyone should get hand outs. Also I do not agree with the statement,”White men are arguably the most privileged in our society.” I mean what about the Mexican women that came to America illegally, had babies (which are now legal residents because they were born here), and now the women live off of the money that we work to pay everyday. I have children as well and can get up and work everyday. My boyfriend is a white man in his thirty’s and he is not able to get any assistance.

Are you for real “G8RGURLNPHX”??? Every news program from Dateline to 60 minutes has profiled the racial unbalances and advantages that still exist in our society. Their cameras have followed and tested these unbalances in interviews, customer service and general social interactions with strangers. Each time their investigations prove that white men are given something that no other sex or race is given, the benifit of the doubt. The are immediately trusted and serviced better. I agree with the point that was made on this site, no one should be more ashamed of begging on the streets.

  • Shanita Johnson Says:

Hey “GR8GURL”, please tell your husband to sign on as we would all love to hear about his terrible racial struggles and injustices as a white man.

  • UsrNme1 Says:

“GR8GURL” Thank you so much for your opinions. To be fair, I said “white men are ARGUABLY the most privileged in our society”, giving people like yourself the opportunity to disagree and argue the statement. I also understand your frustration regarding how our tax dollars are being used to support illegal immigrants. But do you really think it’s fair to compare the medical care received by immigrants to the decades civil rights were denied to minorities in the US?

White men in the US have always had the right to vote, an education and better jobs in this country. Even more than a woman like yourself. That is all documented fact of our American history. Which is why an all white school board in Texas is trying to get all of that history removed from the school books. Why? Because they are embarrassed to teach how minorities have been treated for years in this country.

Everyone is struggling now, and although there may not be a job available to fit your husbands desires, there are jobs out there. Definitely enough jobs where a young, able man could work before having to beg next to the highway.

So can we at least agree that if these street beggars had any self respect, they would be standing in the parking lot at Home Depot?

this post demonstrates poor reasoning. white men are arguably the most privileged throughout history, but only a certain class of white men. whites have been out of work and homeless for years; the country is full of other races who work and are well off, yet some are poor…you just can’t use this kind of reasoning for any race. and if you don’t know the background of these men, then you have no right to assume anything. this kind of assumption proves socially unaware…it sounds more like a college sociology class nerd. come to NYC; see the homeless and out- of-work. we are all colors.

why not ask these men what they are doing, as well as their positions on immigrants? everyone suffers tough breaks. you make it sound like they hate immigrants in addition to being lazy, without proof.

and before the conservative name-calling begins, i’m as progressive as they come.

  • UsrNme1 Says:

Thank you “Your Mama,Fool”! I push buttons just to bring people like you out of the wood work. Your opinion is priceless and very socially aware. It’s a problem that we judge people’s circumstances by race, and it is true that homelessness is an equal opportunity situation.

  • Maria602 Says:

Are you F*ing kidding me??? These men should be ashamed of themselves. For starters, few people just become truly homeless without some fault of there own. Think about it, how many of you would have atleast 3-4 people willing to let you stay with them for a while if you happened to lose everything? Men on the street like this have more than likely burned so many people that they have no where else to go. They have probably stolen from friends and family so much that no one wants them around anymore. Also, homeless people who don’t get involved with the system/shelters that provide help and services are typically drug addicts. The addiction got them on the street and keeps them there because the refuse to follow the necessary rules to get the services they need.

I too consider myself to be progressive thinking. I also give my time to food centers and participate in clothing drives to help the less fortunate. I also know a con when I see one, and 8 guys working a large intersection together is more of a drug and alchohol co-op then a sincere effort to survive.
