“Boycott American Airlines!”
This was demand I heard from a very upset frequent traveler. Her reasoning??? American Airlines announced that as of May 1st, 2010 they will begin charging $8.00 for a blanket on their flights. Oh it gets better, they are only charging the passengers in coach!! Please remember this is also the airline that charges $25 per checked bag, while other airlines carry them for free. It’s sad as hotels continue to try discount rooms and cut cost to lure us in to a few nights stay, but this airline stabs us all in the back with additional charges after you’ve purchased the ticket. “These extra charges make it nearly impossible for a family with kids to travel!”, she said.
I think she had a point, this doesn’t seem very socially aware for a company in today’s economic turmoil. What do you think? Read for yourself:

This is ridiculous and absolutely insulting to the American citizen!!! They shouldn’t even be allowed to use the name “American”!

Greed, greed, greed. Republicans hate welfare for the individual, but it’s okay for corporations. That must be because it “trickles down”, right? Just like those big AIG bonuses. That’s a find example of how “trickle down” works, right? Who finds it ironic that people who already have money (ie those who can afford first class tickets) seem to reap all the perks of … well, just about everything (from low interest credit cards and loans to no-fee first class flying). The poor carry an unfair burden int his country, and it’s so painfully obvious that I just don’t get why there isn’t any more anger about it!

What the hell do Republicans have to do with American Airlines!!! You don’t think republicans fly coach???? You don’t get a free blanket when you take the train, the bus or a cab. If anyone is being greedy it is the customer! The airlines have taken a hard hit just like everyone else. If you look closely you will see that hotels and restaurants are also charging more for less. Who’s supposed to pay for the cleaning, restocking and replacement of blankets. Who’s supposed to pay for your free snacks and drinks. Who’s supposed to load your bags and ensure their safe arrival? Who is supposed to pay for all of that when the economy has cut travel in half.
So if you liberal whiners want companies like American Airlines to start cutting jobs, keep asking to be pampered for no charge.

Boycott American Airlines for being rude and charging an American Army soldier for his checking in bags. The company has a policy of waving all charges for any checking bags to any active military personnel on their deployment travels. Unfortunately, American Airlines failed to pay its respect to our active men and women in uniform providing security and freedom that we enjoy everyday.

Thanks for sharing “Angelo”. It makes me sad to know that customer service can drop to such a low level. I suppose the name of the airline means nothing.
