Give the fat kid a chance!
Okay people, help me get a little more socially aware on this topic. Last night I was at dining at restaurant, when a family of four was seated next to me. I was immediately disturbed by the size of this family, and by size I mean the mother, father and both children were severely obese. So I ask you, with all the information we have on the problems that come with being over weight and the rapid increase in child obesity, should parents raising little fat offspring be cited for child abuse??

Ha-ha! I love it! The parents should also be forced to take a class on proper nutrition.

It makes me so sad when I see families like that. It’s true, the kids barely have a chance. But I don’t know if legal action is necessary. I fear that would open the door for citations for bad hair cuts and tacky clothing. Yes, for some people that would make for a beautiful world, but I think it’s the differences in size, shape and color is what makes us beautiful.

When you pay attention to something, you start to see it more often. Now I’m seeing fat kids everywhere! What the hell are kids eating these days, peanut butter and jelly foot-longs?? While we are working on figuring out how to feed the homeless, maybe we should spend some time focusing on not feeding the greedy.
To be fair, it’s not always about greed. What kids are eating is just as big of a problem as how much they are eating. The places I saw the most over weight kids, tagging along behind fat parents; Wal-mart, McDonald’s, Peter Piper Pizza, Burger King. Is it bad parenting or a socioeconomic food trap?? I need to look in to this further.

It drives me crazy to see a parent giving their child the run of a gas station, letting them pick out candy, chips and sodas for lunch time treats. YOU DO NOT FEED YOUR CHILD AT A GAS STATION!!!

Who knew Starbucks would be a hot bed for fat kids??? Parents, stop ordering frozen chocolate coffee treats for your kids!

Ha! I never really thought about it being child abuse, but that is a great point.

My sisters kids are so fucking fat it’s disgusting. She refuses to cook so they survive on chicken nuggets, french fries, pizza and soda. The little fat bastards fit in two my swim trunks this summer. I’m a grown as man and their 9 an 11 years old!!! I have thought about calling child protective services many times, but thought that I would be laughed at for complaining about kids getting too much for dinner. Give the fat kid a chance is a great statement, because my nephews are going to need every chance they can get from getting their asses kicked to and from school.

As a mother of an overweight child, I find this blog topic offensive. Not all children struggling with weight can be put in a group of lazy or overfed. My child has a serious liver disease which causes his body to swell, the kids at school make fun of him even though his teachers have tried to explain his illness. I work so hard to provide the right foods and nutrients to help him fight this battle, but even that can be tough in this economy.

“Lvnlife40″, I am sorry to hear about your son, and please know that this topic isn’t for parents like yourself. It’s for the parents that feed their kids from illuminated menus that can be read from the car window. I wish you and your son the best, please come back and share your opinions again.

i think its a little bit of every thing. but who do you blame when just about every thing is processed. obesity and diabetes (just to name a few) weren’t a big problem a century ago. but thats just the way it is now.

You blame the parents!!!! If you know everything is processed, should they. It says it right on the packaging.

not all the time. for example there is no label on the meat we buy that says the cattle it came from were injected with growth hormones. if they use that to fatten up animals what do you think it does to people when we eat it.

“Jose”, I agree that is a problem, I heard that there may already be some meat from cloned cows in our grocery stores.
